'Tacos, Teardrops, and Tequila' play festival debut

September 29, 2015

On Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, East Valley Repertory theatre troupe made it's debut with a 10-minute play festival entitled "Tacos, Teardrops, and Tequila." The festival consisted of seven original plays by local playwrights from a variety of backgrounds. The plays were set in a taquieria with each play segueing into the next as characters moved in and out of the taco shop.

East Valley Rep is a newly-formed theatre company in partnership with the Coachella Valley Art Center and the Crisalida Community Arts Project of the McCallum Theatre. Founded by Carlos Garcia, a playwright, director, actor, and educator, East Valley Rep is focused on staging original work for a cross-cultural audience in the Coachella Valley.

The themes of the plays in "Tacos, Teardrops, and Tequila" ranged from abortion, immigration, self-harm, vegan ideals, Alzheimer's disease, and family issues.
